Davedi Club wants to Celebrate City's 100th Anniversary

By Dave Mendicino
The City of North Bay turns 100 this year and the Davedi Club wants to celebrate.
Italian’s have been immigrating and settling in North Bay for over 100 years. Back then, for many of them, the railway was the link to a better future. Some used that as a springboard to other employment, some started their own businesses and created jobs. All of them had the same goal, work hard to create a better life for their family here in the adopted land of Canada and North Bay.
We are extremely proud of our Italian Heritage and Culture and it will be on full display the weekend of April 4th-5th as the Davedi Club presents.......I Nostri Viaggi- Our Journeys.
On Friday night we are hosting a Prime Rib Dinner/Dance with music provided by Restoration Jazz Band. The Band is adding numerous Italian songs to its repertoire and they're excited to perform them. We will also be sharing Italian stories, pictures and unveiling our interactive display of stories received. This display will be permanently housed at the Club with the ability to add more stories in the future.
On Saturday night join us for a staged reading of the Italian family comedy “Over The River and Through the Woods" Nick is a single guy who routinely see's both his sets of Italian Grandparents for Sunday dinner. When he tells them that he is moving far away to pursue his dream job the fun starts. The Grandparents invite the lovely and single Caitlin over for Sunday dinner in an effort to keep Nick from leaving home.
Some great local talent will be performing both nights. The artists for Saturday night include Morgan Bedard, Joanne Bernier, Loretta Di Eugenio, Natalie Demarco, Marc Paxton, Peter Cliché (music), Matt Lishman (technical director) and Gerry Mendicino (reader, director).
The Italian Community has contributed greatly to the Economic and Population growth to the city over the past 100 years. We are celebrating the ones that came before us, they left the Homeland for a better life, settled in North Bay and worked hard to pave the way for the rest of us.
Tickets - Friday night $60, Saturday night $25, Weekend pass $75
