Huub Wigny

1948 – 2025 

 Hubertus Charles Cornelis Maria Wigny (Huub), age 77 of North Bay ON passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025 in his home, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer.

 Huub was born March 28, 1948 to Charles and Betty Wigny in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Huub immigrated with his family to Saint John, NB in 1989, relocated to Halifax in 1995, relocated again to Vancouver Island in 1998, and finally moved to North Bay in 2022.

 Huub worked as a Marine Engineer on large commercial vessels sailing for several years across the world’s oceans and later worked on shore for various naval engineering and maintenance organizations in both The Netherlands and Canada.  In the latter part of his career, he was involved in the Canadian Patrol Frigate and Maritime Coastal Defense Vessel projects both on the East and West Coast of Canada, retiring in 2014.

 Huub loved being near and on the water, enjoyed many family sailing trips with his sailboat and more recently enjoyed roadtrips with the travel trailer exploring the beautiful natural and historical sights throughout North America.

 Huub leaves behind his loving wife Herma of 56 years, sons Marco and Robert, as well as 2 grandsons Julian and Yannick. Huub also leaves behind siblings Elizabeth, Yvonne, Jeanette and Bernt and his golden retriever Oliver.

 Huub will be greatly missed by his family and many who knew and loved him.
