New records with northern music and film award submissions
We’re learning more about this year’s Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards (NOMFA).
Events, including live music, short film screenings, workshops, and more, will take place at Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury from June 18-20.
One of the highlights is the awards ceremony with 14 awards, honouring the best in music and film from Muskoka to the Manitoba border, to be handed out.

Nominations closed last month with Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) saying submissions surpassed previous records set in 2024.
Categories include everything from outstanding album to songwriter, outstanding feature film, actor and more.
“We’re thrilled to once again celebrate the excellence of Northern Ontario music and film projects, while encouraging and supporting musicians and filmmakers to grow in their careers,” says Patrick O’Hearn, CION Associate Executive Director. “It’s incredible to be working with Place des Arts again this year on NOMFA. Knowing that northern musicians and filmmakers combined this year to set records with the number of award submissions, we think having both the conference and ceremony anchored at this incredible venue will be great for hosting both local and visiting guests who want to make the most of a celebratory weekend in Sudbury.”
The nominees will be announced in April.
Ten North Bay area people or projects were nominated at the 2024 event, with four winners honoured.
