Nipissing University Welcomes Ontario's Landmark Investment in Post-Secondary Education
Nipissing University welcomes Ontario's landmark announcement to increase funding for the post-secondary sector by $6.4 billion over four years. The investment also includes a tuition cap of two per cent annually after a long-standing cut and freeze, providing a more sustainable funding framework for the sector.
Nipissing is especially encouraged by the $284 million in dedicated funding for small, regional, and Northern institutions, recognizing the essential role universities like ours play in supporting students, strengthening communities, and training the highly skilled graduates needed across the province.
The increase to operating funding and capping of tuition at two per cent will help strengthen core programs, and ensure students have access to high‑quality education close to home, with the supports they need to succeed in programs that align with labour market needs.
“Today’s announcement is very welcome news for Nipissing University and for all Ontario institutions," said Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor, Nipissing University. "The funding for small, regional, and Northern institutions acknowledges the unique realities we face and reinforces the Province’s commitment to ensuring students have access to excellent, affordable, and in‑demand university programs no matter where they live. We appreciate the government’s recognition of the critical contributions Northern universities make to community vitality and to the future workforce of Ontario.”

Nipissing will continue to do its part to drive efficiencies, minimize costs, and ensure funding is used responsibly as it works to advance its Strategic Plan, Academic Plan, and Operational Plan.
Nipissing University looks forward to continuing to work with the Ontario government and sector partners to strengthen postsecondary education across the province and to support the success of learners in the North.
