North Bay Driver Arrested Following Attempt to Evade Traffic Stop
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested a North Bay man following a dangerous driving incident and impaired driving investigation that occurred in the early morning hours of February 16 in the Albert Avenue area.
On February 16 at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Patrol Section attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the O’Brien Street area. The driver failed to stop and attempted to evade police, operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner.
Officers safely brought the vehicle to a stop, in the Albert Avenue area. The driver initially provided a false identity; however, their true identity was later confirmed, at which time it was determined their driver’s licence was suspended.
The accused, Timothy Corbeil, 56-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drugs or Alcohol
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid
- Driving While Under Suspension
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Improper Number Plate Light
Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:
- 0.3 grams suspected Crystal Methamphetamine
- 30 suspected Oxycodone pills
During a lawful search of the vehicle, officers located a quantity of Schedule I substances. The driver was also observed exhibiting signs of impairment. A Drug Recognition Evaluation demand was issued, and the accused was transported to NBPS headquarters for further testing. Following the evaluation, the driver was deemed to be impaired.
“Our patrol members responded quickly and worked in a coordinated manner to safely bring this situation under control,” said A/Insp. Corrente. “Their actions prevented further risk to the public and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to protecting community safety.”
The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
