North Bay OPP marking Snowmobile Safety Week
The North Bay OPP is out on the trails promoting safe, responsible riding for this Snowmobile Safety Week (Feb. 9-16).
Provincial police say riders can expect to see officers on the trails throughout the week, supporting safe, responsible snowmobiling across the region.
They say their message is simple:
• No impaired riding
• Controlling your speed
• Wearing approved helmets and warm protective gear
• Staying on marked OFSC trails
• Planning ahead and checking conditions
The OPP says snowmobiling is a big part of winter in Northern Ontario and safe choices help make sure everyone gets home at the end of the day.
Meantime, the Almaguin Highlands OPP is investigating a fatal snowmobile collision on the weekend.
Police say at 2 pm on Saturday emergency crews responded to a report of a snowmobile colliding into a tree on a Trail in Kearney.
They say the driver, a 51-year-old man from Whitby was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Anyone with any information in relation to this investigation is asked to call the Almaguin Highlands OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
