VERRILLO (PADUANO), Giuseppina (Palmina)

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Giuseppina on Monday February 2, 2026, at the age of 107 years. Giuseppina was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Verrillo (1994) and the loving mother to Louise Colozza (Frank) and Guido Verrillo. She was the cherished grandmother of Sara and Joseph and great-grandmother of Marco. Giuseppina is predeceased by her mother Francesca Paduano (nee Vannelli) (1936) and her father Michele Paduano (1942) as well as her siblings Giovanna Fiani (Guido), Giuseppe Paduano (Adele),  Maria Marinaro (Zino), Antonietta Covatta (Donato), and Gabriele Paduano (Michelina).

Our mother was blessed to live a long life.  She was born on March  24,1918 in the town of Frosolone, Italy just before the end of World War 1.  She had a happy childhood but lost both her parents in her teen years during World War 2.  When her mother died, she assumed the role of matriarch and took care of her 4 younger siblings until they were old enough to live independently. With the help of her sister Antonietta, she immigrated to Canada in 1954. Once in Canada, with barely any knowledge of English, she worked in a laundromat to make the $200 necessary to sponsor our father’s immigration to Canada. They were married in 1955 and started a family shortly thereafter.  In 1959, we moved to the house on McIntyre Street West where our mother lived until 2025 at the age of 107 years.

Our mother’s faith guided her life. Living on McIntyre Street West gave her the opportunity to become a part of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption family.  Since she never learned to drive a car, she could walk to church and did so often.  She went to mass as often as she could and never missed any celebrations especially at Christmas and Easter.

Our mother was known for her large vegetable and raspberry garden and the countless loaves of bread, pies and pizzelle that she baked.  She loved sharing the fruits of her labour with her friends and family. She loved vanilla ice-cream and a good game of cards although she was known to cheat if things didn’t go her way.  She was a talented seamstress, knitter and crocheter. She sewed Barbie clothes, bridesmaid dresses,  knitted slippers and crocheted table clothes.  She was also more than happy to do alterations for family and friends.

Although she is finally reunited with her beloved husband Salvatore, she will be profoundly missed by all of us who had the good fortune to be a part of her life.

We would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to our mother’s doctors, Rick Trenker, Alison Halpert and Rebekah King, and the wonderful staffs at Eastholme, Home for the Aged and Preferred Care for their care and compassion.

We will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Tuesday February 10, 2026, between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm. Mass  will follow at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption at 1:30 pm with refreshments thereafter. If desired, donations to the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption - Roof Campaign or the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged. Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
