11,275 transit rides taken by BayGo pass users
Nearly 990 BayGo passes were issued as part of a free city transit pilot program for young people this summer.
The BayGo pass was available to youth ages 12 to 17 from June 1 to Sept. 7.
The city says during that time, users took a total of 11,275 rides on city transit buses.
Daily use totalled 249 rides on weekdays and 158 rides on weekends.
“Youth aged 15 accounted for the largest share of passes at 23 per cent, followed by 16-year-olds at 21 per cent and 14-year-olds at 17.5 per cent,” states a release. “Youth ages 12, 13 and 17 accounted for 9.7, 13.5 and 15 per cent, respectively.”
The city partnered with Planet Youth Nipissing and Canadore College for the program, which was launched to help reduce transportation barriers for young people and make it easier for them to get to work, recreational activities, programs, services, and more across the city.
A couple of surveys are helping officials assess the pilot and future planning.
