15 directives issued
This after NNDSB governance review
The province has released the final report into a governance review at the Near North District School Board (NNDSB).
It was sparked by media reports and concerns from parents and community members relating to a new school in Parry Sound.
The executive summary says the reviewer highlights serious governance and leadership issues at the board.
They include:
- An alarming deficit of leadership in the senior administration of the school board
- A dysfunctional Board of trustees incapable or unwilling to carry out its responsibilities
The Minister of Education has issued 15 binding directions, with eight of them addressing ‘governance dysfunction’.
They include conducting a Director of Education performance appraisal, submitting a professional development plan for all board members, and more.
The other seven directives address leadership issues.
Among other things, they include relocating the education director’s office to the main board office on Airport Road, having an external party review human resources practices since 2020, and submitting a community engagement plan to restore public confidence in the Board.
