$195,500 to Upgrade Community Infrastructure

The Ontario government is providing two municipalities in Nipissing with $195,500 in funding this year through the Ontario Trillium Foundation's (OTF) Capital grant stream to make it easier for residents to access critical programming, activities and spaces.

“Our government believes facilities like Powassan’s outdoor pool and Chisholm’s library enrich the lives of people in our community,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This financial support will enable The Municipality of Powassan and the Township of Chisholm to better serve the people that live here and continue to make a positive difference.”

A breakdown of funding includes the following:

·       $170,500 for the Municipality of Powassan to make necessary repairs to the community’s outdoor pool to ensure that it can continue to operate for many years to come.

·       $25,000 for the Township of Chisholm to upgrade their library facilities by replacing interior light fixtures, installing a new heat pump, and bringing accessibility features up to standard.

“The entire Municipality of Powassan and surrounding area would like to thank Minister Fedeli and the Ontario Government for this funding. For 68 years the Powassan Lions Pool has provided swimming lessons, recreation opportunities and a great way to beat the summer heat for an entire community. The Lions Pool has always been one of the busiest summer time locations in our community.  This funding will enable the Municipality to move forward with plans to rehab and upgrade our existing public pool.  This investment will ensure the Powassan Lions Pool will be operating for many years to come.” - Peter McIsaac, Mayor, Municipality of Powassan.

“What great news to hear! Collaboration between different municipalities is essential for the success and sustainability of community programs and services such as the library in Powassan.  By working together, the Township of Chisholm, Municipality of Powassan, and Nipissing Township have made it possible to upgrade the facilities of the Powassan and District Union Library. This collaboration not only ensures the availability of library services but also enables the provision of excellent programming for all our communities. It's a wonderful example of how partnerships can benefit everyone involved. Thank to Minister Fedeli for his ongoing support of local initiatives such as this.” - Gail Degagne, Mayor, Township of Chisholm.
