22 Wing North Bay welcomes Canada’s Defence Minister
Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Pauline Rochefort says David McGuinty held a town hall meeting with local military personnel.
Rochefort says topics ranged from adding military housing, growth at 22 Wing, expanding childcare and military pay raises, which are now in effect and retroactive to April 1.
“These measures are about more than an increase in pay and benefits, they are about demonstrating respect and recognizing the sacrifices made, day in and day out, by the brave and selfless CAF members who work tirelessly in the service of their country,” says McGuinty, in a release. “They also reaffirm our commitment to the people who wear the uniform and to their families, and whose strength and support are vital to Canada’s defence.”
He also met with Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli who says they discussed how Ontario’s 300 defence manufacturing firms and 13,000 workers will be key to supporting the technology and equipment Canada and its allies depend on.
