30 years since Mélanie Ethier was last seen
The search for Mélanie Ethier continues 30 years after she went missing in New Liskeard.
Ontario Provincial Police say the 15-year-old left a friend’s house early in the morning of Sunday, Sept. 29, 1996 to walk home, which was less than a kilometre away.
The OPP says she hasn’t been seen or heard from since, and foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
Police also say new billboards have been set up on Highway 11, highlighting the clothing she was last seen wearing.
“To the person who knows what happened to Mélanie, I want to say this: I have been stuck on September 29, 1996, for three decades while you have been living your life carrying the secret of what happened to my daughter,” says Céline Ethier. “I am asking you to please tell us where her remains are so I can give her the proper burial she deserves and finally be at peace. If she was your child, you would want the same thing. Don’t take this to your grave.”
A $50,000 reward continues to be offered by the Ontario government for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance.
