39 Addictions Treatment and Recovery beds to open by March 31
The North Bay Regional Health Centre and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) North Bay and District will be operating 39 of the new addictions treatment and recovery beds.
That announcement from the province which says 34 of the beds are expected to be in service by March 31, 2025. The additional five beds will open by June 2025. Officials say they will operate within current facilities of the hospital and mental health association.
“Under the clinical expertise and operational capability of the North Bay Regional Health Centre and Canadian Mental Health Association – North Bay and District, families in North Bay and the Nipissing District will have access to safe, timely and comprehensive recovery services and treatments,” says Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “By advocating for these critical beds, our government is closing urgent gaps in care and ensuring those struggling with mental health and addiction can receive high-quality support close to home.”
The announcement comes after Ontario Health launched a targeted Expression of Interest last month to secure new providers for the 53 addictions treatment and recovery beds initially allocated to the Canadore College project.
Officials say the health centre and mental health association have the clinical expertise and operational capability to get the project done.
They add once opened, these beds will provide a safe place for individuals struggling with addiction to connect to timely and reliable specialized addictions treatment supports, including withdrawal management services, intensive addictions treatment, and supportive recovery.
“We are pleased to be in a position to be able to support more individuals in our community by implementing these services as quickly as possible in the new year,” says Mary Davis CEO, CMHA North Bay and District. “Working with Ontario Health, we will leverage our strong existing partnership, shared knowledge of local needs and build on our expertise and infrastructure to implement these beds.”
The government says it will continue to work with its partners to deliver the remaining 14 beds.
