60 km/h zones on Lakeshore drop to 50 km/h on Wednesday

Drivers will notice a speed reduction on Lakeshore Drive starting on Wednesday.

The city says that’s when all 60 km/h zones will be reduced to 50 km/h on Lakeshore Drive.

Officials say it will create one continuous speed limit along the roadway, outside of the Community Safety Zone near Sunset Park School and the Omischl Sports Complex.

The existing 40 km/h limit in that area will remain in place.

Council gave the green light to the speed reduction last month.

A staff report pointed to an analysis saying the main factor influencing the recommended speed limit is the number of private driveways on Lakeshore Drive.
