A big day for Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park
Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park reopens today (Friday, May 8).
It’s been nearly 11 months since the park was closed after the devastating storm last June.
The province says the downburst knocked down tens of thousands of trees and damaged park infrastructure.
Park officials say staff are excited to welcome visitors back adding the landscape looks a bit different than in previous years.
They say recovery efforts continue, with certain areas of the park still closed.
Visitors are asked to respect all closures and maintain a safe distance from work crews to ensure everyone’s safety.

Officials also say 500 trees have already been planted to help restore biodiversity and rebuild important habitat for species at risk.
In November, the province announced $4.75 million to rebuild and upgrade the park to become a year-round operation.
