Dave Mendicino - The Councilor Who Never Stopped Working

Dave Mendicino has never been one to sit on the sidelines.

During his 15 years on City Council, Mendicino earned a reputation as one of North Bay’s most dedicated municipal representatives — a hands-on leader who believed that public office was not about titles, but about getting things done.

First elected in November 2003, Mendicino quickly became known for asking tough questions, challenging conventional thinking and standing up for taxpayers. He brought the same relentless work ethic to City Council that had defined his career in business, and community service.

And now, after years of experience serving North Bay and the surrounding region, Mendicino is ready to step forward once again.

Experience Matters

Dave Mendicino states “There is a huge difference between talking about leadership and doing the work”. Dave has spent years sitting at the table making the difficult decisions, balancing competing priorities, managing public resources and working with individuals with different perspectives to come together as a team to move the business of the city forward. The city needs this type of experience and steady hand that Dave Mendicino can bring to the next term of council  

Dave has worked with all levels of government, understands how government works, has sat on numerous boards, has the business experience and was raised here in our community.

Dave Mendicino adds “Most importantly, North Bay City Council needs a balance of experienced and new councillors to work as a team, debate the issues professionally but in the end make the right decision for the best interests of our community. I fully understand that results matter more than rhetoric”.

 My Record of Putting Taxpayers First

From my first days on council, I made fiscal responsibility a priority.

I have scrutinized multi-million-dollar municipal budgets, questioned spending decisions and pushed staff and agencies to find efficiencies and eliminate unnecessary costs.

My philosophy is simple: government should respect every tax dollar as if it were its own.

Fiscal responsibility was only one part of his vision.

I have consistently championed job creation, economic development, population growth and investment in the community — believing that a strong local economy creates opportunities for families, businesses and future generations.

Leadership That Goes Beyond Politics

For me, community service never stopped when council meetings ended.

Being involved in initiatives that addressed some of North Bay’s most important challenges, including leading efforts to provide shelter beds on Main Street for people experiencing homelessness was important to me  

I'm currently the chair of KidSport North Bay and over the years have contributed my time and leadership to numerous community causes. 

My record of service has continued over the past 4 years, including leadership roles as Chair of Cassellholme and Interim Chief Administrative Officer of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority.

These roles gave me an even broader understanding of the challenges facing municipalities, regional organizations and the people they serve.

 A New Chapter

Today, more than ever, I believe North Bay is at another important crossroads for the future Mayor and council.  The community needs leadership that is prepared to make difficult decisions, pursue new opportunities and put North Bay’s future ahead of political convenience.

We need to be willing to ask tough questions and challenge the status quo.

As a group, we need to listen — but also be prepared to lead.

Mendicino’s record demonstrates that he has never been afraid of hard work.

I am ready to put my extensive experience, energy and determination to work again for the city we all love.
