Added pedestrian crossing goes operational Friday on Oak Street

You’ll notice a new type of pedestrian crossover on the 100 block of Oak Street West beginning operations on Friday.

The city says pedestrians wanting to cross will activate the flashing lights with a push button.

They also say drivers and cyclists must stop and wait for pedestrians to cross the entire roadway before proceeding.

The new crossover is located between Fraser and Ferguson streets, near the North Bay Museum.

Drivers can face a fine up to $1,000, and four demerit points for failing to yield at a pedestrian crosswalk.
