Alanna Travers

Alanna Travers

November 14, 1946 ~ March 13, 2025 (age 78)

It is with profound sadness that the family of  Alanna “Lannie” Travers (Thomas) announces her passing on Thursday, March 13th after a brief illness.  Her family takes comfort in knowing that Alanna spent her last few days telling stories, laughing, and spending time with the ones she loved.  She was happy.

Left to grieve are her husband of 56 years John, her children Sean (Angie), Ryan (Michelle), and Alyssa, her grandchildren Michael, Jack, Scott and Darren, her daughter-in-law Sue Johnston and siblings Susan Aultman (Paul), Beth Brisson (Robert), Patti Vezina (Denis), Bill (Rozane) and Jim.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved.

She had a deep faith and those left to grieve take comfort knowing that she is now reunited with her mom and dad, Arthur “Punch” and Geraldine (Irwin) Thomas, and her brothers Peter and Keith.

Born in 1946 in North Bay, the eldest of eight, family meant everything to her and she was never happier then when surrounded by, or talking about family.  Large family gatherings, phone conversations and pop-by visits were always the highlight of her day. She loved spending time at the cottage, watching wildlife, reading a good book, and catching up with friends and family.

She appreciated and always cherished the wonders of nature.  Whether it be a sunset, the northern lights, the birds in her backyard or even the day-to-day weather she was always awed by the beauty of our planet.  The small things like the first robin of spring, a loon singing at the cottage, a beautiful sunset or a shooting star will always remind us of her.

Always putting others’ needs before her own, it is no surprise that Alanna spent 52 years in the helping professions. Her first career saw her help countless people over 26 years as a social worker at the North Bay Psychiatric, Civic and St. Joseph’s Hospitals   The next 26 years were spent happily working alongside her sister Susan for Dr. Chris Galema where she looked forward to going to work every day.

The family would like to thank all the staff who helped make her comfortable in the last week, especially the nurses and doctors in the ER department and in the CCU.  It was a difficult time for the family but your kindness was truly appreciated.

Visitation will take place at Hillside Funeral Services on Thursday March 20, 2025, from 11 am until 1pm, a celebration of her life will follow.

In lieu of flowers, as a sign of sympathy donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice or the Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
