Annual flu vaccine shipments on their way

We’re still awaiting specifics on local influenza clinics, but the maker of this year’s flu vaccine says shipments have started rolling out to the provinces.
GSK Canada (GlaxoSmithKline) says the vaccine is made in Canada, and is for use in adults and children greater than 6 months of age to protect against influenza virus types A and B.
They add it complies with the World Health Organization’s recommendations on which strains to be included.
Officials say the flu is estimated to cause over 12,000 hospitalizations and 3,500 deaths each year in Canada, ranking it among the 10 leading causes of death in the country.
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit’s website says flu and COVID vaccines will be available at the beginning of October for high risk individuals and the end of October for the general population.
Details will be posted online, when available.
