Another $117,000 in Suspected Illicit Drugs Seized by NBPS Street Crime Unit
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested two individuals and seized approximately $117,000 worth of suspected illicit drugs, nearly $15,000 in Canadian currency, and two pellet handguns as part of a Street Crime Unit (SCU) investigation.
The accused, Kayla Rose MARTEL, 32-year-old female, of Sundridge, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Four Counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Obstruct Peace Officer
The co-accused, Pascal PELLAND, 30-year-old male, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Four Counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
As part of a SCU investigation, NBPS SCU and Patrol Section executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of First Avenue East. As a result, two individuals were arrested, and officers seized a significant quantity of suspected illicit drugs believed to be intended for the purpose of trafficking, along with a substantial amount of Canadian currency, including more than $4,000 in coins, believed to be proceeds of crime.
Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:
- Qty 2 Pellet Handguns with CO2 cartridges
- Controlled substances with an estimated street value of $117,000 including:
- 552 grams Fentanyl
- 36 grams Cocaine
- 187 Oxycodone pills
- 90 Opiate pills
- Qty 3 x 180mg Methadone (diverted)
- $14,899 in Canadian Currency
“This brings the total value of illicit drugs seized by the Street Crime Unit in 2026, so far, to more than $1.1 million,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. “We will continue to target those who traffic illegal drugs and profit from harming our community. This investigation is another example of the outstanding work of our Street Crime Unit and Patrol Section, whose proactive enforcement efforts are helping make North Bay a safer place.”
The two co-accused were arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
