Another OT Thriller for the Voo Doos

Another OT Thriller for the Voo Doos

Lucas Lowe made the most of his 100th NOJHL contest, scoring twice including the overtime game-winner as the Timmins Rock battled back for a 5-4 win over the visiting Powassan Voodoos at the McIntyre Arena on Friday night.

Lowe broke in on a 2 on 1 in overtime and picked up a rebound off a shot by Mason Svarich and beat Voodoos goalie Patrick Charette for the game-winner at 1:44 of the overtime session.

Lowe, who finished the scoring, also started it on this night as the Toronto product redirected a shot from Mason Svarich to open the scoring for the Rock at 9:17 of the opening period on the power play.

Late in the first, the Voodoos responded when Reyth Smith took a back door pass from Mathieu MacMillan and he beat Patrick Boivin to make it 1-1 at 19:37.

The Rock got the lead back early in the second on a neutral zone turnover as Sam Gallagher fed Henry McLellan as his quick shot beat Charette on his glove side at 3:10.

The Voodoos replied again as former Rock forward Dylan McElhinny took a feed from Cameron Lemcke which made it 2-2 at 5:28.

The Voodoos took their first lead of the contest on a power play as Alex Case found Ryan Patrick on a back-door pass which made it 3-2 at 11:44 of the middle frame.

The Voodoos added to the lead as Zach Turner deflected an Alex Little shot by Boivin which made it 4-2 at 17:33.

In the final minute of the second, a shot by the Rock’s Felix Cadieux-Fredette went off a body in front on a shot from the point which made it 4-3 on a late Rock power play.

The Voodoos had a chance to restore the two-goal lead near the 12-minute mark of the third as Mathieu MacMillan was hauled down on a partial breakaway and awarded a penalty shot.

MacMillan came in slowly and his quick release was stopped by the glove of Boivin which kept it a one-goal game.

The Rock got the equalizer on a late 5 on 3 power play as Harry Clark put a loose puck home off a shot by Lucas Lowe at 15:43.

The Voodoos killed off the rest of the late Rock power play to force the overtime session before Lowe ended the game in overtime.
