Antonio Veppe Marchione

Antonio Veppe Marchione

November 23, 1921 to August 17, 2024

Passed away surrounded by his family. Antonio was born in the beautiful medieval village of Cocullo, Italy in 1921. He was the beloved first born of Adamo and Domenica Marchione. Antonio leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years Maria (nee Arcieri) and his loving daughter Irma Marchione and her husband Sean Graham. Predeceased by his siblings Paolo Marchione (Liberata), Nunzia Palomba (Antonio) and Quinto Marchione.

Antonio also leaves behind his sister-in-law Rossana Marchione, who was more like a sister to him. Zizi Tony was steadfastly present in the lives of Armando Marchione, Rita Dubeau, Donna Backer (Cory Backer), Alexa Dubeau, Stefania Marchione, Giulia Backer and Anthony Backer.

He will be missed by his nephews and nieces and all who knew him.

His experiences during the Second World War helped define his lifelong compassion for those who suffered or are suffering because of conflict or disaster in the world. He followed world events for his entire life right up to the end.

Tony immigrated to Canada in 1951 joining the large Italian community in North Bay which later included his brothers Quinto and Paolo. In the mid 1950s they joined forces to purchase their first home on Third Avenue. They worked hard but they also played hard with many stories of three-day long card games in the basement of a local downtown business establishment.

He returned to Cocullo in 1960, where he courted and married Maria Arcieri in 1964. Later that year they moved to North Bay where Irma, their daughter was born.

Tony worked in construction until retirement. He then enjoyed his life gardening, reading, countless word finds, spending time with friends and family and enjoying the odd glass of his homemade vino. He finally had time to enjoy the fruits of his labour. Tony was a proud member of the Davedi Club for over 50 years.

The family would like to thank the staff on the E3 Flex Unit at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, also the staff on Birch at Cassellholme for going over and beyond in their show of care and compassion.

Ken and Joyce Brenner…you will always be part of the Marchione clan.

Family receiving friends at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd, on Friday August 23rd from 9 am until 10:45 am. A funeral mass will follow at St Peter the Apostle Church at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Antonio to Casselholme’s Tri-Shaw Bike program would be gratefully acknowledged by his family.
