Area paramedic services getting a million extra dollars

Funding for land ambulance services in the area is on the rise.

Nearly $8 million dollars is going to the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) this year.

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing says it’s up by 15%.

He says the Land Ambulance Service Grant money will connect more people to emergency care faster and increase the availability of paramedics and ambulances in the community.

“This $1 million increase in funding helps ensure the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board can address increased costs of ambulance services so they can continue to deliver high-quality emergency care within our community,” says Fedeli. “Our government is taking action to build a strong, responsive health care system that continues to meet the needs of Ontarians, no matter where they live.”

Melanie Shaye, DNSSAB CAO, says the board is grateful for the continued support of the province.

“This investment, along with the province’s commitment to making the Community Paramedicine Program a permanent and growing part of our health system, shows a strong dedication to strengthening both emergency response and care at home,” says Shaye. “These investments make a real difference in ensuring our residents, especially those who are most vulnerable, can rely on timely and high-quality health services when they need them most.”

The province says almost $1 billion in land ambulance funding is going to municipalities across Ontario this year, representing an average increase of 8.7 per cent from last year.
