Assault Investigation Leads to Seizure of Drugs, Loaded Handgun and Stolen Property
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested two people, seized more than $100,000 worth of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine, a loaded handgun and a significant amount of property believed to be stolen during the execution of a search warrant at a North Bay residence.
The accused, Jacob Tyler BURNS, 41-year-old, male of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Two Counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Handle Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
- Three Counts of Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
The co-accused, Sky DEPENCIER, 25-year-old, female of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Administer Noxious Thing
- Two Counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Handle Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
On Sept. 22, 2026, at about 1 p.m., NBPS responded to a report that two people had been assaulted. Reportedly, one person was struck with a baton and another was sprayed with bear spray. One person was taken to hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, two people believed to be involved in the assault were identified and information indicated the two were also involved in the trafficking of controlled substances.
On Sept. 24, 2026, at about 8 p.m., members of the Patrol Section executed a search warrant in connection with the investigation at a residence in the 2100 block of Trout Lake Road, with support from the NBPS Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Street Crime Unit (SCU). The accused and co-accused were located inside the residence and arrested.
NBPS seized more than $100,000 worth of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine, a significant amount of property believed to have been stolen from local retailers, a loaded .22-calibre revolver-style handgun and additional ammunition.
Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:
- Controlled substances including, with an estimated street value of $104,660:
- 463 grams Fentanyl
- 217 grams Crystal Methamphetamine
- Stolen property from local retailers:
- 25 Milwaukee brand tools, and several other valuable tools
- Two portable grills
- Portable air conditioner
- Speakers and home security devices
- .22 caliber revolver style handgun with 9 live 22 caliber bullets
“This investigation is an excellent example of what can happen when our members persist, follow the evidence and work together. Crime of this magnitude has a direct and potentially lethal impact on our vulnerable people and creates serious risks to the safety of our community that reach far beyond those directly involved,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. “I want to recognize the excellent investigative work led by our Patrol Section, with assistance from the Street Crime Unit and Emergency Response Team, in bringing this investigation forward.”
The accused and co-accused were remained after a bail hearing, and schedule to appear in court on October 7, 2026.
