Attempt Murder Charge Laid in IPV Investigation

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has made an arrest and laid multiple charges, including Attempt Murder, after Intimate Partner Violence investigation.

On January 25, NBPS Patrol Section responded to a reported assault at a residence in the downtown area of North Bay involving a male accused and a female victim. Through the investigation, officers uncovered evidence of additional altercations, which resulted in further charges being laid.

All parties involved are known to each other, and there is no risk to public safety. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The accused has been charged with the following offences:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Two Counts of Uttering Threats to Cause Death
  • Two Counts of Assault
  • Two Counts of Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Six Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order

"Intimate partner violence often follows patterns of behaviour that can escalate quickly, putting victims in serious danger,” said Insp. McFarlane. “It’s extremely important for anyone experiencing violence to reach out for help as soon as possible. Our members are committed to supporting victims, holding offenders accountable, and working with community partners to provide safety planning and prevent further harm."

The accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
