Attempted Robbery in Parking Lot Leads to Arrest

A local man has been arrested by the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) following an attempted early-morning robbery in a parking lot of a local business.
On October 2nd, at around 4:55 am, the victim was parked in their running vehicle, at a local business on Drury Street. The accused approached the victim’s pick-up truck and placed his bicycle in the box of the truck. The accused then opened the driver’s door of the vehicle, and began punching the victim, and attempted to pull the victim from the vehicle. A witness intervened, stopping the attack, and the accused fled the scene on foot. NBPS officers were dispatched to the scene, and through the use of a police drone, the suspect was located a short distance away, and was immediately arrested. Upon arrest, the accused provided a false name. Once the true identity of the accused was determined, it was found that he was currently on a Probation Order.
The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
The accused, David Beauchamp, 41-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with the following offences:
- Robbery
- Obstructing Police
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Inspector McFarlane of the Criminal Investigation Section states “this incident demonstrates the quick response to a very dangerous situation by our uniformed patrol members. Through the collaborative team efforts of those members, and the use of modern crime fighting technology by our Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) Operators, we were able to quickly and efficiently bring this dangerous offender into custody and before the courts on very serious charges, preventing further victimization and threats to public safety. Our thoughts are with the victim of this incident, and we thank those that intervened to assist the victim, preventing further harm.”
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
