Base funding boosted at hospitals in North Bay and Mattawa

The North Bay Regional Health Centre is receiving $10.7 million more in base funding.

MPP Vic Fedeli announced the money on Friday morning, along with an added $500,000 for the Mattawa Hospital.

“Today’s significant investment will enable the North Bay Regional Health Centre and the Mattawa Hospital to plan and budget sustainably, strengthen stability, and protect access to core services for patients and their families,” says Fedeli. “The Ontario government recognizes the unique challenges faced by small and Northern hospitals, and we will continue working hard to relieve pressures for our hospitals located in Nipissing.”

Paul Heinrich, President and CEO, NBRHC, says they’re very pleased with what he calls ‘significant’ funding for the health centre.

“These funds, together with the previously announced cost-saving measures, significantly improves and stabilizes the financial situation facing our health centre in both the immediate and mid-term,” he says. “We are particularly appreciative that many of the recent funding announcements have been base funding.”

Tanya Bélanger, President and CEO, Mattawa Hospital, says Fedeli has been a strong and consistent advocate for rural health care.

“An increase in hospital funding is essential to ensuring Mattawa Hospital can continue providing safe, high-quality care close to home,” says Bélanger. “With this additional targeted financial support, we can better meet the growing needs, strengthen staffing, and sustain the vital services our community relies on.”
