Battalion & OHL mourn the loss of former player

The North Bay Battalion and Ontario Hockey League are mourning the loss of a former player.

Kurtis Evans passed away last Thursday at the age of 23 after a battle with cancer.

The right winger, from Uxbridge, was the Troops' third round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Central Ontario Wolves AAA program.

Evans played 54 games for the Battalion from 2017-19.

"The OHL sends heartfelt thoughts and condolences to all affected at this time," reads a release.

His family is accepting donations to the Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada in his memory.

They also plan to honour him by realizing his vision to create Falling Feathers, an organization dedicated to introducing nature and the outdoors to those with limited opportunity due to illness.

The North Bay Battalion organization is deeply saddened by the loss of former player Kurtis Evans following his battle with illness.
