Bear Spray Discharged During Altercation; One Arrested
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested a man following an altercation that escalated when he allegedly sprayed bear spray at three individuals, resulting in two receiving medical treatment and one being transported to hospital.
On August 26 at approximately 10:00 p.m., a verbal altercation near Fraser Street and Second Avenue escalated when the accused allegedly sprayed bear spray at three victims. All parties were known to one another.
The accused, Nathaniel DEPOTIER, 21-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Three Counts of Assault with a Weapon
- Three Counts of Administer Noxious Thing
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
NBPS Patrol Section responded alongside District of Nipissing Paramedic Services. Two of the victims received medical treatment, with one transported to hospital. The accused was located a short time later and arrested without further incident.
“Bear spray is a serious weapon that can cause significant harm to those exposed,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. “We remind the public that using bear spray against another person can have serious legal consequences for the person responsible.”
The accused was held in custody, pending a bail hearing.
