Bernard Patrick “Pat” Fitzmaurice

Bernard Patrick “Pat” Fitzmaurice

January 29, 1952 – March 10, 2026

Bernard Patrick “Pat” Fitzmaurice passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2026, with the two people who meant the most to him holding his hands until his very last breath — his loving wife Joanne and his daughter Tasha.

Pat was born on January 29, 1952, to Doris (Neault) Fitzmaurice and Bernard Joseph Fitzmaurice, who predeceased him. He spent his life surrounded by family, laughter, and the beauty of the place he loved most — Mattawa, Ontario, along the shores of Champlain Lake.

Pat was a devoted husband to Joanne Fitzmaurice and a proud and loving father to Tasha Fitzmaurice, Sebastien Fitzmaurice, and Tyler Fitzmaurice. His greatest joy in later years was being a grandfather to Mackenzie Fitzmaurice, Carter Rockburn, Jacob, and Maiden, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

He will be dearly missed by his brothers: Brian Fitzmaurice (Lorna Webb), Wayne Fitzmaurice (Helen Fitzmaurice), and Miles Fitzmaurice (Jen Fitzmaurice), as well as many nieces and nephews who will always remember his warmth and sense of humour.

Pat loved the simple and meaningful moments in life — especially time spent out on the water. Many of his happiest days were spent pontoon boating on Champlain Lake, enjoying the sun, the breeze, and the company of those he loved. Music was always part of those memories too, especially when “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” would play.

Pat will be remembered for his love of family, his easygoing nature, and the quiet strength he showed throughout his life. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, and his memory will live on in the stories shared by family and friends and in the peaceful waters of the lake he loved so much.

As the sun sets over Champlain Lake and the water grows still, those who loved Pat will always imagine him out on the pontoon once more, the breeze on his face and the sound of “Day-O” drifting across the water — a reminder that his spirit will forever live on in the lake, the music, and the family he loved so deeply.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that somewhere beyond the horizon, the lake is calm, the sun is warm, and Pat is smiling — the music playing softly as he finally rests, forever loved and never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mattawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by his family.

A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held at a later time.

Arrangements entrusted to the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel”, and online condolences may be offered at www.martynfh.com
