The city’s main arena on Chippewa Street and home of the North Bay Battalion has a new name.

It’ll now officially be known as Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens.

A deal with the international drilling services company, which has nearly 200 employees in North Bay, was approved at a special meeting of Council on Monday afternoon.

The agreement is for $485,000 over five years with revenue shared between the city and the Battalion, as per their current agreement.

“We’re proud to welcome Boart Longyear as the naming rights sponsor for Memorial Gardens,” says Mayor Peter Chirico. “This agreement represents an exciting partnership that helps support the arena’s operations and highlights Boart Longyear’s deep roots in our community and ongoing support for North Bay.”

Scott Abbott, owner of the North Bay Battalion, says the OHL club is pleased the city and Boart Longyear have reached an agreement.

“The building has a long and storied history in which the North Bay Battalion has been proud to have played a part,” he says. “We look forward to many more years representing North Bay in the Ontario Hockey League and bringing the name Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens to even more fans.”

City officials say signage, including one outside the arena and an in-ice logo will be phased in between now and July.
