Bonfield looking to build sustainable growth

A series of economic development projects are being launched in the Township of Bonfield.

The theme is ‘Growing Bonfield Together’ with officials saying the goal is to better understand the communities’ current needs, and future opportunities for sustainable growth.

“Residents have been telling us for some time they would like to see more economic activity, including spaces to congregate within the township,” says Mayor Narry Paquette.  “Not only will these new investments enhance our quality of life, but they’ll also help us to diversify the existing residential tax base.”

A Community Business Survey will take place in the next couple of months with a final report expected in the spring.

Two forums will also be held, one involving Agri-Food on Nov. 22 and a Developer’s Forum on Nov. 26.

“Over the past few years, the Township has also emerged as one of the fastest growing communities in Nipissing District for both new housing starts, and four-season tourism,” says Simon Blakeley, township Planner and Economic Development Officer. “There are some prime locations for sale on the market within the township right now; and we want to build meaningful partnerships with developers – to deliver a mix of employment spaces, from light industrial units to professional services, retail, office/incubator units, and more.”
