Brian Munn

Brian Munn

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brian Norman Munn, who died peacefully on Friday, September 12, surrounded by loving family and friends, after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD. He was 56.

Brian lived life on his own terms, and in the end, left this world in the same way—peacefully, with dignity, and surrounded by those who loved him most.

He is survived by his mother Faye (Robert) Lepage, his daughter, Sahara and his siblings Kenneth, Paul, Robin (Andrea), and Tammy (Rodney) Thomson. He was predeceased by his father, Claude “Arden” Munn (1988), and by his grandparents, Elizabeth and Marsh Fairbarn of Guelph, and Evelyn and Burton Munn of Grand Bay, New Brunswick.

An avid fisherman, Brian found his greatest peace by the water, with a rod in hand and the quiet beauty of nature all around him. Whether it was casting a line at dawn or hanging out in his ice fishing hut with friends, he cherished the simple moments that so many overlook. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for Brian—it was a way of life, a source of calm, and a connection to the world that grounded him through even the most difficult times.

Brian had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humour that could light up any room. He was the kind of person who could make you laugh when you needed it most, and whose stories—often wildly inappropriate but always unforgettable, will be retold for years to come. Beyond his humour, Brian had a deep generosity of spirit. He gave freely of his time, his knowledge, and his heart. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or someone he’d just met, he had a way of making you feel welcome and seen.

He formed countless friendships throughout his life—bonds built on loyalty, laughter, and shared experience. While it would be impossible to name them all, each and every friend held a special place in his life, and he in theirs. Though he is gone, Brian's memory lives on in the stories shared, the lives touched, and the waters still waiting to be fished.

A memorial visitation for Brian will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM. Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at a later time.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 390, 95 Ottawa Ave, South River, ON.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brian’s memory to the Canadian Lung Association, to support ongoing research and care for those living with COPD.

Brian will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
