This is Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week with a number of initiatives taking place at schools across the Near North District School Board.

‘Call It Out’ is the theme this year and the board says its Safe Schools team is focused on providing skills for students and staff to identify, define and call out racism and discrimination.

Along with a curated bin of resources at each school’s library, there’s also a video and lesson plan from the North Bay Battalion, who will also be visiting schools.

The Vincent Massey choir will be singing the national anthem at this Thursday’s Battalion game against Guelph.

On Tuesday evening (6:30 pm), a parent workshop entitled Words Matter, is taking place virtually.

Staff and students and staff at schools are being encouraged to wear pink shirts on Wednesday, in support of calling out bullying, racism or discrimination.

Officials also say the North Bay Police Service, in partnership with Amelia Rising, is providing anti-human trafficking education to Grade 11 and 12 students at West Ferris and Chippewa Secondary Schools.
