Capitol Centre Looking for Board Directors

Capitol Centre Looking for Board Directors

CALL FOR BOARD MEMBERS

The Capitol Centre is seeking individuals to fill vacancies on its volunteer Board of Directors. In an effort to properly represent the diverse community which we serve, the Capitol Centre welcomes interested applicants from all walks of life to help best ensure a board that reflects diversity with respect to ethnicity, gender, culture, and areas of expertise. We are specifically looking for the following relevant skills, knowledge and perspectives:

  • Finance
  • Lived experience
  • LGBTQ2
  • Policy and legal
  • Human resources

Directors on the Capitol Centre Board serve in a governance capacity. They set the organization's direction, develop policy and undertake operational and financial oversight. The Board of Directors meets once each month, usually 10 months of the year.  Board members with various backgrounds serve on standing committees such as Fundraising, Human Resources, Sustainability, Plant and Property, and other ad-hoc Committees, as required.

The Capitol Centre is home to the Betty Speers Theatre and the WKP Kennedy Gallery. As the cultural heart of North Bay, we offer our patrons, artists, and community members an environment that inspires, creates, and showcases performing and visual art forms. We are dedicated to enriching the cultural life of the community through arts development, education, and programming.  The Capitol Centre draws people from North Bay and surrounding areas including Sturgeon Falls, Bonfield, Corbeil, Callander, Powassan, Nbissing, Temagami, and Mattawa to name a few.

Fundraising is ongoing at the Capitol Centre through revenue-generating events such as Bingo, Annual Charity Fundraiser, Annual Golf Tournament and many other special events. An integral part of being on the Capitol Centre Board of Directors is a dedication to being actively involved in fundraising, participation, and attendance at Capitol Centre events, as well as being a catalyst in providing exposure for the many exciting presentations held in the Betty Speers Theatre and the WKP Kennedy Gallery.  This is indeed a challenging time for us as we begin to navigate the post-pandemic world.

Applicants are invited to submit a letter of interest to the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Patricia Spencer at pspencer@vianet.ca and complete the online form by June 14.
