Canadore College Celebrates First Cohort of Nursing Degree Graduates

Canadore College is proud to celebrate a historic milestone this convocation season as the College recognizes the first graduating cohort from its stand-alone Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree program.

Launched in 2022, Canadore’s four-year Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree was developed to help address the growing demand for highly skilled nurses across Northern Ontario and beyond. The program combines classroom instruction, simulation-based learning, clinical placements, and interprofessional education to prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of healthcare settings.

“This first graduating class represents an important milestone not only for Canadore College, but for healthcare across our region,” said Dr. Ahmed Obaide, Vice President Academic at Canadore College. “These graduates are entering the profession at a time when compassionate, highly trained nurses are needed more than ever. We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished and excited to see the impact they will make in hospitals, clinics, long-term care homes, community organizations, and healthcare systems across Ontario and beyond.”

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing program provides students with hands-on learning opportunities through high-fidelity simulation labs, community partnerships, and clinical placements in diverse healthcare environments. Students develop skills in acute care, mental health, home care, maternal and child health, public health, gerontology, leadership, and evidence-based practice.

“This graduating cohort has demonstrated remarkable resilience, professionalism, and dedication throughout their studies,” said Dr. Vivian Papaiz, Interim Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies and Health Sciences. “They are leaving Canadore with the knowledge, clinical experience, and leadership skills required to thrive in today’s evolving healthcare environment. We are honoured to have been part of their journey and look forward to seeing the positive difference they will make in the lives of patients and communities.”

Canadore College has been training nurses for more than 30 years and continues to expand opportunities for learners through innovative, experiential education and strong community partnerships. The College’s nursing education is supported by leading-edge simulation environments and interdisciplinary learning opportunities through The Village, Canadore’s integrated health and wellness education model.
