Canadore Panthers Show Grit in Southwestern Ontario Road Trip
The Canadore College men’s basketball team hit the road this past weekend for two matchups in southwestern Ontario, taking on Conestoga College and Fanshawe College. While the Panthers fought hard in both contests, they ultimately came up short, showing flashes of brilliance and determination throughout the trip.
Game 1: Canadore vs. Conestoga
Final Score: Conestoga 74, Canadore 69
On Friday night, the Panthers faced Conestoga College in a tightly contested game. Despite a strong offensive effort led by guard Ty Huxtable, Canadore fell just short in a 74-69 defeat. Huxtable was a standout, posting an impressive 31 points on 10-of-22 shooting, including 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Thomas Gowland added 11 points and six rebounds, while Isaiah Nanton made an impact off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds. Bishop Whitemell anchored the defense, pulling down 10 rebounds.
The Panthers’ resilience was on full display, as they out-rebounded Conestoga 54-50 and put up 26 points in the paint. However, turnovers and missed opportunities in key moments proved costly.
Game 2: Canadore vs. Fanshawe
Final Score: Fanshawe 91, Canadore 67
On Saturday, Canadore traveled to London to take on Fanshawe College. The Panthers faced a tough challenge against a high-energy Falcons squad, eventually falling 91-67.
Once again, Ty Huxtable was a leader for the Panthers, recording 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Thomas Gowland contributed 14 points and showcased his defensive versatility with three blocks. Logan Parker added 10 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting.
Despite moments of strong play, the Panthers struggled to contain Fanshawe’s offense, allowing 50 points in the paint and being out-rebounded 61-34. The Panthers demonstrated resilience, converting 80.8% of their free throws, but the Falcons’ balanced scoring and depth proved decisive.
In varsity volleyball action, the Panthers travelled to Ottawa to take on the Algonquin Wolves. The men won their match by a score of 3-2; the women lost their game, 3-0.
