Canadore Panthers Weekend Sports Wrap
The Canadore College men’s basketball team battled hard but came away with two losses following a trip to southwestern Ontario. On Saturday, the Panthers fell short with a final score of 78-64 against Lambton College in Sarnia.
The game showcased impressive individual performances, particularly from Thomas Gowland who led the team with 20 points, complemented by 9 rebounds. Other standout players included Ty Huxtable, contributing 6 rebounds and 5 assists, and Corey Boochoon who scored 15 points with 4 three-pointers.
Despite the loss, Canadore had 28 points in the paint and secured 25 points from the bench. The team also showed flashes of strong play, particularly in the first half, where they managed to stay competitive, trailing Lambton by just 2 points at the end of the first quarter. Canadore struggled with turnovers, allowing Lambton to capitalize with 26 points off turnovers.
On Sunday, in Windsor, the Panthers fought valiantly against St Clair, but ultimately fell short, with a final score of 120-81. This game leaves Canadore with a season record of 0-3.
Despite the loss, the team showed notable individual performances. Thomas Gowland led the way with an impressive 23 points and 3 rebounds, showcasing his offensive capabilities. Isaiah Nanton also contributed significantly with 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Ty Huxtable added 8 points and 8 assists.
Next up for the Panthers men’s basketball is Saturday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m. against Conestoga in North Bay.
Meanwhile, it was Panthers Volleyball at home
The Panthers men’s volleyball team remains undefeated after a weekend set against Seneca and Loyalist.
Saturday, the Panthers hosted Seneca College and won all three sets. The final scores were 25-22, 25-16, and 25-23, marking a strong performance for Canadore.
Peter Ostranski-Ayles was instrumental as well, racking up nine kills and showcasing his defensive prowess with key digs throughout the match. Ethan Lucas shone with six kills, while Konrad Siedlec added seven, demonstrating the depth and talent of the Canadore lineup.
On Sunday, the Panthers triumphed over Loyalist College, winning in a dramatic five sets. The final scores were 28-30, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16, and 15-13.
Khaled Bryant led Canadore's offense with 10 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .438. Peter Ostranski-Ayles and Konrad Siedlec also made significant contributions, with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
On Saturday, November 2, the Panthers will take on the George Brown Huskies in Toronto at 8:00 p.m.
The Canadore College women's volleyball team showcased their grit during a set of matches against Seneca and Loyalist this past weekend.
Saturday's match was an exciting back-and-forth affair, with both teams demonstrating impressive skills. Canadore claimed the first set 25-23, driven by standout performances from Emily Peltier who delivered 12 kills, and Sophie Hotte who contributed 8 kills and 16 points overall. The team showed great spirit, particularly in the third set, where they again claimed victory 25-19.
However, Seneca's experience shone through as they regrouped to win the second set 25-12 and ultimately secured the match with 25-21 and 15-11 wins in the fourth and fifth sets, respectively.
Canadore's efforts were bolstered by Kira Fahrbach who recorded 9 kills and 11 points alongside Reece Sommerfeld's solid setting with 36 assists.
On Sunday, the Panthers claimed their first win of the season against Loyalist in another five-set thriller.
After a tough start, Canadore rebounded to win the second set 25-22, igniting their momentum. Emily Peltier was a standout performer, leading the team with 15 kills and demonstrating exceptional offensive prowess. The third set was a nail-biter, but Canadore held strong, edging out Loyalist 27-25 to take a 2-1 lead.
Loyalist fought back, taking the fourth set 25-21, but Canadore refused to back down. In a decisive fifth set the team rallied to secure a 15-10 victory, highlighting their determination and teamwork.
Key contributions came from Kira Fahrbach, who added 9 kills and 12 points, and Reece Sommerfeld, who orchestrated the offense with 34 assists.
The Panthers women’s volleyball team take to the court again on Saturday, November 2, in Toronto against George Brown.
