Celebrating 100 Years of Mining in North Bay

Celebrating 100 Years of Mining in North Bay

By Richard Coffin
While the city doesn’t have any mines, its contributions to the global industry through mining supply, services and technology are being celebrated as a part of North Bay’s Centennial year.

The CIM Northern Gateway Branch is hosting the ‘100 years of Mining’ event May 30-31, which includes exhibits, storytelling, and interactive events.
“Mining has shaped our city, and we aim to honour those contributions while looking ahead to future innovation,” says Rachel Cranford, Subcommittee Chair.
An immersive exhibit will see locally designed and manufactured mining equipment, innovations, and technology, spread along the North Bay waterfront with the public invited to take a self-guided walking tour.

Local mentors and innovators who have shaped mining in North Bay will be celebrated during a social evening aboard the Chief Commanda II.

Officials say there will be opportunities for the community to nominate and share their stories.

The city’s website says North Bay is home to over 60 global leaders in the mining exploration and mining supply and services sector.
