Celebrating 63 years of ringette with annual Agnes Jacks Memorial Tournament
Hundreds of ringette players are in the city celebrating the 63rd anniversary of the sport that was created in North Bay.
The Agnes Jacks Memorial Ringette Tournament is hosting 34 teams from across the province.
Games are being played Friday through Sunday at the birthplace of Ringette, the West Ferris Arena, and the double rinks at Pete Palangio Arena.
The sport was invented in North Bay by Sam Jacks in 1963 with the West Ferris Ringette Association saying they’re proud to honour Agnes Jacks, Sam’s wife, who was a huge advocate for the sport.
Along with dozens of ringette games all weekend, there will be a bonfire outside of Pete Palangio arena on Saturday for anyone to join.
Gold medal games are featured on Sunday, with a funfest taking place in partnership with the YMCA for the youngest players.
Everyone in the community is invited to see what ringette is all about, with free admission for spectators and volunteers available to offer information on the sport.
