Celebrating Francophone culture with winter fun
Le Carnaval is back for the 63rd year.
Officials say the flagship winter event brings the community together through celebration, culture, and winter fun.
“I really want to stress this is a celebration of Francophone culture where everyone is welcome,” says Anne Brûlé, Director of Programming with Les Compagnons des francs loisirs. “Please come have fun with us and get rid of those winter blahs.”
Le Carnaval takes place Feb. 1-7, but there are several events, including workshops, entertainment, music and dance behind held around the area this month.
“We’re really excited to share activites and the booklet of programming,” says Brûlé. “There’s things happening in River Valley, Sturgeon Falls, North Bay, Bonfield, Astorville and Mattawa over the next four weeks.”
That’s all ahead of Le Carnaval early next month.
“Everything from dancing, visual arts, music and theatre,” she says. “We’ve even got an ice fishing tournament this year.”
