Celebrating the city’s centennial through art

More art projects are celebrating the city’s centennial, with one you can take home.
A limited-edition commemorative art print, created by local artist Kevin Hoffman, is now available at The FARM, downtown. Hoffman and Scott Clark, President of Clark Communications, presented the first of 100 numbered and signed prints to Mayor Peter Chirico at Tuesday’s council meeting.
“To every person in this room and throughout North Bay, thank you for making this centennial year a celebration of who we are and who we want to become,” says Clark. “North Bay is 100 years young, and our best chapter is ahead of us.”
Along with being designed and sold locally, the print was produced at Photo Metro.
“It represents something much larger than a single piece of art.” says Clark. “It embodies the values that make North Bay special including local artistry, production and commerce.”
Hoffman’s work is already part of the city’s heritage.
He created the paintings that hang in the council chambers more than 30 years ago and were gifted to the city in the 1990s.
“This project was very rewarding.” says Hoffman. “Combining so many historical landmarks and icons in a single composition had its challenges but it all came together and should offer viewers some fun little surprises too.”

Meantime, new murals have been installed outside the McIntyre Street entrance to the Capitol Centre.
Local artists were invited to submit their work for the 100 Years: Legacy Mural Series.
The public art project commemorates the city’s cultural heritage, natural landscape, and evolving identity.
