The East Ferris Cenotaph is going to be restored.

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Pauline Rochefort presented $25,000 from Veterans Affairs Canada for the work.

“It is with deep respect and gratitude that I present this funding on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada,” says MP Rochefort. “This cenotaph is more than a monument, it is a symbol of our community’s enduring commitment to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.”

Built in 2011, officials say the monument has worn over time and the project will address structural issues, structural issues, including cracked and chipped concrete, deteriorating paint, and moisture damage.

The work will include concrete repairs, installation of weeping tiles, and repainting to ensure the monument’s longevity.

“This restoration ensures that future generations will continue to have a place to gather, reflect, and honour our veterans,” says Mayor Richard Champagne. “We are grateful to Veterans Affairs Canada and to all our community partners for making this possible.”

The project is a collaborative effort between the Municipality of East Ferris with East Ferris Memorial Park and the East Ferris Knights of Columbus Council #6664.
