Chadbourn, Peter Joseph
June 16, 1934 – June 15, 2026
It is with great sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing of our father, Peter Joseph Chadbourn, at Northern Heights Long Term Care Home in North Bay, on June 15, 2026 at the age of 91. Beloved spouse of Diane, who predeceased him in 2021. Loving father to David (Valerie), Greg (Jean), Michael (Karen), Susan Karn (Randy), Pollyanna Horodziejczyk (Mike) and Nancy Karn (Jeff). Peter was also a special foster dad to Josephine Cuthbert (Gerry). Cherished grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Peter is survived by his sister Wendy Gilbert (Greg) and was predeceased by his siblings Shirley, Nola, Donna, Bill, Lorne, Jolene and Diane. Peter was also predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Norma Chadbourn (nee Davey).
Dad’s main focus in life was high on family values. Being raised on a farm, he quickly gained a strong work ethic and a love of the outdoors. Both he and Mom loved operating their own farm, while working outside the farm and raising six kids. Dad spent most of his working career as a machinist and fabricator for the Boart Longyear Company.
Neighbours, family and friends all benefited from Dad’s relentless desire to help when carpenter, plumber or electrician skills, or just simple help was required. If someone was in need, he was always there.
Both Mom and Dad were avid lovers of music. Dad began and ended each day with playing the piano, often for several hours at a time. And although he could not read music notes, if he knew the tune, he could play it and often in any key that was desired.
When Dad finally did settle into full retirement, he enjoyed many years producing or repairing numerous pieces of furniture in his fully equipped woodworking shop. He was especially proud of the pieces he manufactured for his grandchildren and the numerous large grandfather clocks, all of which will be passed down to future generations.
We are deeply grateful to all of Dad’s caregivers, both at North Bay Regional Hospital and Northern Heights Long Term Care Home for the care and compassion they always showed. Special thanks to Dr. Jinnah and Dr. Ng for going above and beyond.
As Mom passed during Covid and a service was not possible, family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation for both our Mom and Dad at Martyn Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 12:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. A light luncheon will follow the service.
If desired, donations to the Knox United Church of Nipissing Village would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
