Charlie (Charles) Angus Kapashesit Small

 Sunrise April 16, 1956 - Sunset June 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear Charlie which took place on Sunday June 2, 2024, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side at the age of 68.  Cherished husband of Marlene (nee Carey).  Beloved father of Jolene, Miranda (Joe), Clayton, Amy, and Ashley.  Proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Charlie is also survived by his dad Oliver, 9 siblings, aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is reunited with his mother Alice, brother Freddy, along with his ancestors in their heavenly home.

He was a true sports enthusiast. Loved hockey and took the position of Coach, Manager, and organizer of hockey events.  A true Toronto Maple Leafs fan, who cheered for them until the end.  Charlie loved his Indigenous roots and was in constant pursuit of Traditional Teachings and passing his knowledge to those he loved.  He leaves a legacy of love, respect, kindness and the importance of family.

He was well known for his exceptional craftsmanship in Tamarack Bird making. He will always be remembered for his love and compassion that touched the lives of many.  He had a heart of gold and was always there for anyone who needed him.

A heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, the health care providers from Care Partners/Paramed, Dr. Hailey Moore his primary physician for their compassionate care, as well as his family and friends who gave their time to Charlie in his final days.

In honour of Charlie’s employment at Canadore College as a counsellor supporting Indigenous students, the family will offer a bursary in his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the House of All Nations Church, 90 Carmichael Dr. in North Bay, Ontario on Friday June 7th, 2024.  Visitation from friends will take place from 10-11am, immediate family from 11-12pm and service will commence at 12pm. The committal will follow after the service and will be held at St John’s Cemetery, 102 Golf Club Road.
