Chewie walks into retirement Thursday
The community is being invited to bid a fond farewell to Chewie, a dedicated Trauma Support Dog.

Victim Services of Nipissing District and the North Bay Police Service are holding a retirement event on Thursday for Chewie, who has served the community for the past eight years.
His walk into retirement begins with a police escort at 11 am from police headquarters to the YMCA, followed by a ceremony and community barbecue.

This event is open to the public.
Officials say throughout his career, 10-year-old Chewie provided comfort and support to victims of crime, children and youth, and first responders during some of their most difficult moments.
They add he was trained specifically for work in trauma-informed environments and played an important role in interviews, crisis response, community outreach, and member wellness initiatives.
