Chisholm lifts state of emergency, sandbag stations remain open in North Bay

By Richard Coffin

The state of emergency was lifted Thursday in Chisholm Township. Officials say all roads have been re-opened, but ask residents to continue to use care as many areas will continue to be soft due to water content.

The emergency measure was put in place April 16 because of severe flooding and damaged roadways.

The City of North Bay, meantime, says sandbag filling stations will be operating again this weekend in North Bay as Lake Nipissing water levels continue to rise and the potential for shoreline flooding increases.

Filling stations at Sunset Park at the end of Sunset Boulevard and Champlain Park at the end of Premier Road will be staffed from 9 am to 5 pm, both Saturday and Sunday.

The filling station at Public Works on Franklin Street will remain open as a self-serve location.

Officials also say auxiliary pumps are being delivered at the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Memorial Drive and will be on standby to assist with the discharge of fully treated wastewater if needed.

The city says it will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as conditions change.

In West Nipissing, the municipality posted on social media that Kipling West Road reopened on Thursday, with a number of other closures still in place.
