Mogens passed away Friday, August 15 2025 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Doreen Christensen (Nee Poole). Dear father of Deborah Scherrer, Darryl (Lucie), Sheryl (Michael MacElland), Allan (Suzanne) and Linda (Ronald Coutu). He will be fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings, George Christensen (Connie), Ellen (Eric), John (Janice, deceased), Anne Christensen, Margaret (Glenn) and Mary ( Gary).
He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Helen Christensen.
Mogens spent 34 years as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He was originally enrolled as an Infantryman with the Queens Own Rifles and, on their disbandment, became a member of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. Because of his love of sports, he asked for a career change and became a Physical Fitness and Recreational Instructor. The last six years of his military career was spent with the 26 Service Battalion in charge of the Co-Op education course, a joint course between the Board of Education and the military.
After retirement, Mogens summertime passions were sailing and golfing, and winter was cross country skiing. He enjoyed working on the sailboat almost as much as his Tuesday night races and spent many hours on both. Every second Thursday all summer the boat was packed and with a group of friends sailed across the lake to the French River for fun and sun. The return trip on Monday felt much longer. The remainder of the summer days he and Doreen spent golfing, with good golfing friends, at Highview Golf Course. In winter,he spent many hours cross country skiing at the Wasi Ski Trail.
Mogens also volunteered his time to help keep the North Bay Yacht Club and the Wasi Cross Ski Trails flourishing. At the Yacht Club, he worked on the docks and anything else that was required. He spent a term as Commodore of the club and several terms as Harbour Master. In the fall he could be found on the Ski trails cutting brush and getting them ready for ski season. Once winter came he was up early to get the trails groomed for skiing before he went himself. He was President of the club for several years.
One of Mogens favorite times was the seven years he spent carving on the Heritage Carousel where he got to be expert at carving the horses tails.
A celebration of his life will be held on the 8th of November at the Callander Yacht Club from 2 pm until 5 pm.
Donations to charity of choice in memory of Mogens would be gratefully acknowledge by his family.
