Christmas Day doesn’t have to be lonely
For a second year, the North Bay Elks Lodge is hosting its Big Christmas event on Dec. 25.
Spokesperson Shawn Kettner says everyone is invited.
“We have music, we have food, we have stuff for the kids to do,” he says. “If you don’t have much to do or would just like someplace to be on Christmas Day, come on down 2-6 pm. Everything is free.
Kettner says families scatter, kids grow up and move away and there’s a number of international students here who won’t be going home.
He says that includes a couple of Russian hockey players in Sturgeon Falls, who will be helping them out.
“There’s not much open and not many places to be,” says Kettner. “That was the whole idea – simulating Gramma’s house. Food, snacks, fun, and music.”
The Elks Lodge is located at 325 Elks Lane.
Meantime, the Pro Cathedral’s free Christmas Day sit-down dinner runs from 11:30 am to 1 pm on Thursday.
Take-out is available from 1-1:30 pm.
Officials say the dinner is held so people don’t have to be hungry or spend time alone at Christmas.
There will also be music and gifts.
