Church services being held to mark World Homeless Day

The Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay is marking World Homeless Day on Friday.

Officials say services and masses are being said for the homeless at a variety of local churches.

They note the international day aims to raise awareness about the needs of people experiencing homelessness and promote work done to alleviate suffering and prevent death.

The local committee is made up of the faithful from eight churches primarily in North Bay’s downtown, who have joined together to address the immediate needs of the homeless.

Its goal is to work with all levels of government, existing support services and organizations to find homes for the homeless who want them.
